I know Nashville won (and that is great!), but Dollarway has nothing to be inbarest about. They played a great game and were in it all the way. As a Nashville fan, they have my up most respect. This team will be back. Better take note Warren! -- Joey Andrews, Delight

Nashville 42, Pine Bluff Dollarway 26

Tyler Serrano caught eight passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead Nashville to a 42-26 victory over Dollarway in the Class 4A championship game Friday night.

It was the third consecutive state title for the Scrappers (14-1). Dollarway (10-5) was after its sixth state title.

Pierre Vaughn went 10-of-21 for 295 yards and three TDs for Nashville, which has won 42 of its last 43 games. Vaughn also rushed for 50 yards. Serrano was named the game’s most valuable player for his big receiving night. He also made 13 tackles.

The Scrappers took control when DeShawn Scoggins scored on a 23-yard run with 1:53 left. They added a final score on Kyle Moore’s 52-yard interception return with 32 seconds remaining.

Vaughn and Serrano connected for a 65-yard touchdown on the Scrappers’ second play. They added a 42-yard scoring play in the second quarter and a 57-yarder 20 seconds into the final period.

“That Serrano is a player,” Nashville coach Billy Dawson said. “And what about my quarterback? That man makes me cry (he is so good).”

But the Cardinals, who never led, would not go away. Quarterback Jesse Grandy’s 55-yard run on the final play of the third quarter made it 23-20. The third scoring pass from Vaughn to Serrano made it 30-20, but the Cardinals answered with Grandy’s 1-yard run with 4:14 left.

A Dollarway onside kick failed, and a short drive set up Scoggins’ second scoring run. Scoggins rushed for 128 yards on 14 carries. He also scored on a 33-yard run in the second period.

Dollarway, running a wishbone offense, got three touchdown runs from Grandy, who rushed for 114 yards on 14 carries. He also passed for 39 yards but threw two interceptions.

The Cardinals’ Michael Willingham scored on a 6-yard run in the first quarter.
