Me Voy a Texas

Posted July 8, 2006

Bible Belt Blogger: Me Voy a Texas

In 90 minutes, I'll be boarding a plane at Bluegrass Airport and flying to Texas. Reason for the trip -- I'm taking theology courses, in Spanish, at Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth. I'll be there participating in the Hispanic Summer Program which is sponsored by a consortium of theology schools across the country, including Asbury Seminary. While in the Lone Star State, I'll pick up every newspaper and magazine I can get a hold of pertaining to the recent Mexican presidential election. The July 2 vote was a nail biter -- the liberal Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador carried 16 states and the conservative Felipe Calderon captured the other 16 states. The official vote count shows Calderon winning by less than one percentage point, but it's unclear if AMLO will concede defeat... I also hope to visit some great Spanish-language churches. Will let you know all about it... All right, if I don't stop typing now, I'll miss my flight. Look for another post after my plane touches down in God's Country.

"Yo voy a Texas" and "Me Voy a Texas" both mean "I'm going to Texas."
