Huckabee to speak at 'anti-Catholic' televangelist's church

Bible Belt Blogger: Huckabee to speak at 'anti-Catholic' televangelist's church

It may be the most watched Sunday message since Jimmy Swaggart's "sorry about that hooker" sermon down in Baton Rouge nearly a quarter-century ago.

According to the Catholic News Agency, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is going to speak on Sunday at John Hagee's San Antonio megachurch. The agency says Hagee is stridently anti-Catholic.

This could be big trouble for the campaign. Six weeks ago, a Pentecostal preacher in Irving, Tex. delivered a "message from God" about Huckabee's campaign while the candidate was standing beside him. There weren't any TV camera crews present for the Nov. 4 "prophecy." No other secular reporters, because the conventional wisdom said Huckabee couldn't win. But I was sitting in the audience -- and I imagined what a train wreck a "prophecy" like this would be if it ever happened with the national press corps sitting in the pews.

I doubt Rev. Hagee will deliver any prophecies. But it's a high risk maneuver for Huckabee nonetheless, and this time, you can be sure all the world will be watching.
