Bible Belt Blogger: After a decade at Asbury, Professor Moore quits

From: Provost Office

To: Announcements

It is with regret that we announce the resignation of The Rev. Joy J. Moore as Assistant Professor of Preaching.

Joy has been an integral part of our Seminary community for ten years, serving admirably in a variety of capacities. She is greatly appreciated for her powerful preaching ministry, and her passion for students.

Joy has accepted an invitation of her Bishop and the West Michigan Cabinet to return to the pastorate full-time. Effective July 1, she will become pastor of Greenville First United Methodist Church in Greenville, Michigan. She has graciously agreed to maintain a close relationship with Asbury, expressing her willingness to teach in our online ExL program as well as intensives on either geophysical campus.

We pray every blessing on Joy’s ministry as she moves into this next season of service.

Joy Moore is a splendid person whose departure is regretted. But she is not a "long time" professor. She served previously in a lower staff position before joining the faculty. She has not completed her PhD yet though she has every hope for that changing soon. Everyone at ATS loves Joy, but using a term like "long time" for the departure of an untenured Assistant Professor who still has not finished a terminal degree is potentially deceptive.

Editor's note: Thank you for catching the error. Professor Moore is a long-time Asbury Seminary employee, having worked at the school for a decade, but she is not a long time professor. I have changed the headline so that it is no longer erroneous.

"Geophysical campus?"

These folks don't need a consultant; they can make up pretentious new words just fine on their own.
