Bart McQueary, gardener
Posted March 28, 2007
Bart McQueary has garnered headlines by -- among other things -- suing to keep the Ten Commandments out of Kentucky buildings. His hellfire posts on this site frequently offend and outrage. But there's another side to Bart you may not know about. He's a truly gifted gardener. Click below to read an excerpt from the Danville Advocate Messenger.

Cannas play important part in Harrodsburg gardener's repertoire

Bart McQueary has a knack for growing cannas.
His Harrodsburg yard contains a President, a large, bright red kind; King Humberts, which are yellow with red spots; City of Portland, which has salmon-colored blooms; and Bengal, which are orange and have variegated leaves striped like tigers.
McQueary, who lives on Lexington Street, became interested in the plants in 2005.

Though the link above didn't work for me, I went to the amnews.com web site and from thence to the Advocate's gardening section, and there was Bart, or at least his cannas.
Nice work, Bart. I saw that the pictures were from last year; how are they doing this year?
The don't come up until about May. Those photos were taken in July.
If you want to see other pics from 7/2/06, please click on my name for this post.
Nice job Bart.

I am happy to see at least one member of the Toadvine family (Emily, who wrote the article) still living in Boyle County.
My father's and my old buddy Carlos Toadvine, a/k/a Little Enis, the All-American Left Handed Upside Down Guitar Player, was the greatest honky tonk performer Lexington ever produced, with the possible exception of Esco Hankins, who ended his career in the service of the Lord.
Enis unfortunately passed away a number of years ago, leaving only his one album project, "I Drank the Wine and Threw Away The Roses," as his musical testament.
Emily, I don't know if you're related to Enis or not, but if you are, you should be proud.
