LITTLE ROCK — Tim Griffin, the interim U.S. attorney in Little Rock, is resigning effective Friday, spokesmen for Arkansas congressional members said.

Griffin, a former assistant to President Bush’s top political adviser Karl Rove, stepped in as interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas in December, replacing U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins.

Cummins was one of eight U.S. attorneys fired over the winter. In testimony earlier this year, Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty said Cummins was dismissed solely to make room for Griffin, who had been named as the temporary replacement with the backing of Rove.
