Company owner Carl Ueland of Actagro LLC said Friday he plans to hire 15 people initially. Based in Biola, Calif., Actagro’s organic, acid-based products are designed to work with other plant nutrients. The company markets to growers and dealers.

Ueland said the plant would open in six months to a year. He said the Mississippi County site was chosen because sales are on the rise. The plant will be located in the former building of furniture maker Eck-Adams.

County Economic Developer Clif Chitwood said the company has potential to grow into a significant industry.
