Heifer International focuses on sustainability, not relief, following the principle of “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” The focus is on rural areas, not urban slums. Rather, they give people struggling in the countryside the tools they need so they won’t have to move to overcrowded, impoverished cities.
