Unexpected, unwarranted concern struck Deena Kastor. She stood at the starting line of the women’s Olympic marathon, near Athens, Greece, on Aug. 22, 2004. The temperature was 101,about 30 degrees higher than the forecasted temperature at the start in Beijing on Saturday, when Kastor will face many athletes she raced in Athens.
