Wal-Mart quarterly profit up 17%

Retailer welcomes $3.45 billion earnings, but sees less of a rise ahead

Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s profit rose more than expected in the second quarter, prompting the Bentonville-based retailer Thursday to increase its earnings forecast for the year while at the same time downplaying expectations for sales increases in the third quarter.
