Police arrested a Little Rock teenager and her boyfriend after the teen's toddler wound up in the hospital with a fractured skull and internal injuries.

Brittany Bradford, 17, and Brandon Bellows, 22, were arrested Wednesday night on charges of second-degree battery after they told police they had struck the child with a belt and extension cord. Their bonds were set at $100,000 apiece.

The boy, 2, had drawn the attention of employees at a Harvest Foods on Rodney Parham, police said. Witnesses said the boy, who was with three adults at the store, had bruises around his eyes.

Officers found the boy and his mother at a residence at 1601 N. Shackleford. The boy had severe bruises around his eyes, head and body. Loop marks covered his entire back, according to police.

The boy was transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
