LITTLE ROCK — Normally, the Ozark Folk Center would close Sunday, Nov. 1, but this year participating shops will stay open beyond the regular season in the Craft Village, which will be free to enter beginning Thursday, Nov. 6.
The village, gardens and gift shop will be open to visitors from Thursday, Nov. 6, to Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The following shops have committed to the extended season, and more may sign on later: Widmer Jewelry, Dogwood Leather, Laffing Horse Brooms, Sharon Fernimen Baskets, Perry/Munn Pottery, The Ozark Photo Saloon, On the Creek Knives, Folkers Cooperage, Tina’s Garden Shop, Pasthymes Fashions, StandardCrafts, Handwovens by Dana and Jonelle’s Country Kitchen Crafts.
Craft Village Craft Director Jeanette Larson said crafters will be able to work like they would at home but with the advantage of not having to give up their shop during the offseason months. The crafters won’t have to adhere to their normal historical dress code, so Larson said visitors might see some Tshirts, jeans and power tools.
“To close the Craft Village for five months out of the year is a hardship for them,” Larson said. “Staying open provides a way for them to make sales here instead of having to find someplace else to work for that part of the year. For most of them, this is the way they make their living.” - awidner@ arkansasonline.com
