BEN TON - The Saline County Library is accepting class proposals from artisans and craftsmen interested in teaching a class for beginners during the 2009 calendar year.
Applications are available at both library branches and must be submitted, along with accompanying information, to either location by Monday, Dec. 15.
Library Director Julie Hart said this is the first year the library has asked for submissions.
“Craft classes have been taught at the librar y in the p a st , but t here a re m a ny crafts that have not been included, and we want to provide some variety in what can be taught,” she said.
Adult Ser vices Librarian Erin Waller said submissions will be judged by a committee w it h preference being given to crafts not previously offered at either library location.
“A d i f ferent patter n or style of a previously offered craft is certainly acceptable, though,” Waller said.
Hart said each winner will be awarded $100 to teach one two-hour class and will have the supplies, within reason, provided by the library.
Winners will be notified by the committee once a decision has been reached.
Interested applicants must fill out the form available at either library location or online at www.saline.lib.ar.us and submit it with a brief resume or biography and a photo portraying a completed example of the craft.
The information should be submitted in an envelope or folder on or before Monday, Dec. 15, at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library, at 1800 Smithers Drive in Benton or at the Bryant Library, at 201 Prickett Road in Bryant.
Waller said patrons shouldlook for more information in coming months about what classes are to be offered.
“Participants in these classes will have to register ahead of time so the instructors will know what size group they will have and how many supplies are needed,” she said.
