Watkins’ Beach Club has new name, new manager, new policies

As recently as April 30, the pool at Spring River Beach Club contained stagnant water, and the resort near Hardy appeared run-down. The pool, miniature golf course and other amenities reopened last week under new management and a new name — Sunterra.

HARDY — After fugitive developer Wayne Watkins fled to Mexico nearly two years ago, his Spring River Beach Club fell into disrepair and closed after more than 20 years of operation.
