— A Forrest City police officer shot and killed a pit bull that charged him, and then he cited the owner for letting her dog run loose.

The officer was dispatched to a home on Saturday evening after residents complained about the dog. The officer arrived to find three pit bulls in the front yard and a frightened teenager on top of a nearby car. One dog charged the officer when he got out of his patrol car but ran off when the officer pointed his gun.

The officer got back in the car and tried to contact the owner but got no response. He got out again and the dog charged once more. The officer fired one shot, killing the animal.

After the shot was fired, dog owner Pamela Cody, 31, came outside and was cited.
