— On the heels of our recent discovery that Season’s in the Heights had vacated the ground floor of Prospect Place, 1501 N. University Ave., comes the news that its successor, Salut! at Prospect Place, will open for lunch Monday, with dinner hours to follow in a few weeks.

The restaurant, which will offer “contemporary cuisine with a Southern accent,” according to a news release, is the work of Little Rock restaurateurs Chris Tanner (Cheers in the Heights) and Dave Bisceglia (Dave & Ray’s) with award-winning New Orleans chefs Matthew Ratcliff and David English.

The fairly extensive lunch menu, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday, will include, among the “small plates,” Short-rib Ravioli in a wild mushroom jus and a Flatbread Pizza of the Day; a Pan-Seared Salmon Salad; a Grilled Chicken, Eggplant and Tomato sandwich; and, among the entrees, Low Country Shrimp and Grits and Tasso Basted Chicken. The restaurant will start a cooking club in June and a wine club in July. And it will have outdoor seating. The telephone number is (501) 660-4200.

Other big restaurant news on the horizon: Ed David is planning to open a Faded Rose at Sixth and Main streets in North Little Rock’s Argenta district, directly opposite the Argenta Seafood Co. With a larger kitchen than his Little Rock restaurants, on Rebsamen Park Road in Riverdale and Bowman Road in west Little Rock, he plans to add some menu items, “like veal,” he told our columnist Linda Caillouet. And the city is paving a public lot in the back. Target opening date is September, but, Caillouet observes, a more realistic goal is four to eight months. We’ll keep you posted.

Forbidden City has reopened in Park Plaza, West Markham Street and University Avenue, after being closed for a month for a face-lift. The telephone number is (501) 663-9099.

After several delays, U.S. Pizza Salad Express finally opened last week at 402 Louisiana St., Little Rock. As we reported earlier, it has just about everything every other U.S. Pizza has except the pizza - four salads plus a buildyour-own option, soup du jour, three kinds of bread sticks and seven sandwiches. The telephone number is (501) 374-5561.

China Delight, a buffet restaurant in the Indian Hills Shopping Center, 7111 John F. Kennedy Blvd., where North Little Rock meets Sherwood, has closed and the telephone number, (501) 835-2338, has been disconnected.

Michael and Patsy Calamese have taken over the Steak-Out Char-Broiled Delivery outlet, 10500 W. Markham St., Little Rock. Michael has 10 years of experience working for Arby’s; their son Chris, who will graduate this month from Rhodes College in Memphis and who has been a business consultant intern for McDonald’s, will join his parents in the business. Plans call for some new menu items in addition to steaks, burgers, salads, baked potatoes, barbecue wings, grilled salmon and shrimp, all available for either pickup or delivery. It’s the only Steak-Out location in Arkansas. The telephone number is (501) 228-4800.

Paul Leonard, who operates three central Arkansas Wingstop outlets - at 11321 W. Markham St., Little Rock; in Lakewood Village in North Little Rock; and 2730 Prince St. in Conway - has received two of the 350-store chain’s 32 first “Top Gun” awards for the North Little Rock and Conway operations, the result of high-scoring “Quality, Service, Cleanliness evaluations, done by Wingstop franchise business consultants,” according to a news release.

And T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants across the country, including the one in Lakewood Village, McCain Boulevard in North Little Rock, will treat mothers to a free dessert with the purchase of an entree on Mother’s Day. (That’s this Sunday, for the calendar-challenged.) Want more information? Call the restaurant at (501) 758-2277 or visit the Web site, www.fridays.com.
