Beebe medical students win first, third place at quiz bowl

BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe medical laboratory technician students won first and third place in the 17th Annual Medical Laboratory Technology Quiz Bowl on April 21 at ASU-Beebe.
The 2008 team members were: Susie Roberts of Atkins, Deena Ball of Heber Springs, Lisa Swartz of Damascus, Laura Durden of Beebe, Clay Sims of McCrory, Amanda Greer of Beebe, Felicia Cook of Morrillton, Ariel Felts of Stuttgart and Janice Armstrong of Heber Springs.
The student quiz bowl is an annual event that tests teams of students enrolled in medical laboratory technology programs across the state. The competition assesses knowledge, skills and abilities to apply medical laboratory and clinical laboratory science to an array of medical tests and scenarios. The categories are: clinical hematology with coagulation, clinical chemistry with urinalysis, immunohematology with immunology, pathogenic microbiology with mycology, parasitology and virology.
Eight teams participated, representing National Park Community College, North Arkansas College and Arkansas State University at Beebe.
