Hot Springs festival seeking artists, concessionaires

— Artists, concessionaires and recycled sculpture contest participants are being sought for the 6th Annual Art in the Park Festival, to be held today at Hollywood Park, 411 Hollywood, and the Hot Springs Creek Greenway.

The event is sponsored by the Hot Springs Parks and Recreation Department, Arts Cooperative Team and Friends of the Parks.

The show is juried, where fine artists and craftspersons must have their art screened before admission.

Cash awards will be given for Best in Show, as well as Merit and other special awards.

Artists may apply by calling Bea Arline or Yasmin Martin at (501) 321-6871.

Applications can be downloaded at www.cityhs.net.

Businesses and individuals interested in providing concessions can also call (501) 321-6871.

Fees are based on a percentage of sales.

According to a release from the city of Hot Springs, previous festival experience is desirable.

Last year’s attendance was estimated at 5,000.

“Discarde D’Arte” is sponsored and organized by the Hot Springs/Garland County Beautification Commission. Several age and organization groups will compete for prizes.

According to the release, the event features the artistic talent and creativity of area individuals, civic, school and other groups using recycled,reduced and/or reused items as the media for sculptures. All sculptures must be made from recyclable materials. Cash prizes will be awarded, including a $ 20 0 People’s Choice Award.

Other cash prizes will also be available.

Categories include 1) Elementar y School (K- 6); 2) Secondary School (7-12); 3) Church or Civic Group; and 4) Individual.

Bark in the Park, another element of Art in the Park, focuses on adoption and information regarding animals. Parks and Recreation is seeking sponsors for this activity.
