The $25,000 bail that North Little Rock District Court Judge Jim Hamilton set this week for a man accused of killing a transient with a baseball bat was one of only two bails under $100,000 set for any defendant during an initial court appearance in a homicide case in the city since at least 2006.

According to an Arkansas Democrat-Gazette review of court records involving 33 defendants and 24 cases, the bail set Monday for Donald Scott Grace, 50, was one-fourth of the next-lowest — $100,000 set in a 2006 shooting-death case in which the defendant was later acquitted.

Documents included in this PDF are the arrest report for Grace, the speed letters setting out the specifics of his bail, and the arrest report and bail letter of the only other case to have bond set below $100,000.
