GOP convention ‘in hands of God’

With Hurricane Gustav hurtling toward the Gulf Coast, John McCain on Sunday canceled nearly all of the Republican National Convention’s first day. The rest of the week, he said, is “in the hands of God.” Noting that his party comrades would “take off our Republican hats and put on our American hats,” Mc-Cain said that today’s opening session will be kept to its essential elements.
