The Arkansas attorney general’s office will reopen Friday after it was shut down this week because of an electrical fire.

The office, at Third and Center streets, was evacuated Wednesday because of the fire. Attorney general’s office spokesman Gabe Holmstrom says the fire was apparently caused by water that leaked into the office’s ventilation system, leading to the electrical fire.

Holmstrom says the water got into the vents because the wind was blowing in an abnormal direction, thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Gustav that delivered high winds and heavy rain to the state.

Officials don’t yet know the extent of the damage to the office. Holmstrom says the office’s computer server, which was down all day Thursday, should be back running on Friday.
