The Democratic Party of Arkansas announced this afternoon that Gov. Mike Beebe has recommended that David Pryor, a former Arkansas governor and U.S. senator, be named the interim chairman of the state party to replace the late Bill Gwatney. The choice is subject to a vote of the party’s state committee.

The choice of Pryor would give the party months to come up with a longer term replacement for Gwatney, a former state senator who was slain last month by a gunman in the party headquarters in Little Rock.
