RUSSELLVILLE - There will be a reception from 1-3 p.m. for Maumelle artist David Paul Cook, whose paintings of the Arkansas River will be show in the Down River Views exhibit at the River Valley Arts Center, 1001 B. St. The exhibit of 41 oil and watercolors will be on display until Tuesday, Sept. 30. Admission is free.

Cedar Falls Hike

PETIT JEAN - A park interpreter will lead a hike of Cedar Falls from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in Petit Jean State Park. Hikers will meet in the Mather Lodge breezeway. This hike is two miles roundtrip and is moderately strenuous. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. The hike is free.

Tuesday Pope County Fair

RUSSELLVILLE - The Pope County Fair will be today through Saturday. The midway opens at 6 p.m. daily and at noon Saturday. The commercial and education exhibits open at 5 p.m. daily. Live entertainment will be at 7 p.m. daily beginning Wednesday. Gate admission is $3.

Babycare Basics

CONWAY - Conway Regional Women’s Center will hold a Babycare Basics class from 6:30-9 p.m. Cost is $20 per couple. The class will help expectant parents prepare for their new baby. Topics that will be covered include characteristics of newborns, safety, bathing, swaddling and feeding. Advanced Fitness Camp

CONWAY - Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center trainers Liz Gilbert and Cordell Reynolds will instruct an advanced-fitness camp that continues through Thursday, Oct.16. The class will be from 4-5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays. The camp is open to men and women ages 18 and older who are interested in sports conditioning. Warm-ups, speed and agility patterns, conditioning to increase stamina and intensity and weight training focusing on core, balance and power movements are some of the things this class will offer. The cost is $60 for members and $70 for nonmembers. Only 12 spots are available. For more information call (501) 450-9292 ext. 26.

Wednesday Reaching Unreachable Kids

Golf Tournament

Thursday Poetry Meeting

MAUMELLE - The Frontier Poets, formerly known as the Maumelle Poets, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Maumelle Arts Center, 14421 Frontier Drive. The meeting will focus on building word lists from sensory encounters. The lists will then be used to compose a poem. The meeting is open to the public. For more information call (501) 851-2986.

Friday Day of Caring

RUSSELLVILLE - The fifth annual River Valley United Way Dayof Caring will be all day at locations throughout a three-county area. Area nonprofit agencies submit a work project that can be accomplished in a day, area business put together teams, select a project and in a single day can make a difference well beyond the few hours of work. Teams have painted, cleaned, inventoried, read to preschoolers, assembled playground equipment and performed light landscaping. Saturday Hobo Festival

RUSSELLVILLE - Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association is hosting its annual Hobo Festival at 10:30 a.m. at the pavilion in Old Post Park. Members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association should bring $5 and one can of vegetables for the stew. There will be free stew, cornbread, desserts and drinks, as well as games, door prizes and lots of motorcycles on display. For more information call Ken Holmes at (479) 968-5179.
